Smooth Skin is Always In
Shaving is a constant and sometimes daily battle, but it really doesn’t have to be. By removing the hair at the root, expert waxing appointments provide hair-free legs, bikini areas, and underarms for up to a month (or longer) than traditional shaving. Put down the razor and spare yourself the awkward shower dance with a waxing appointment from Sea of Beauty Med Spa!
Shaving vs. Waxing
Waxing and shaving, though both common methods of hair removal, are vastly different in every other aspect. Waxing pulls hair directly from the root and can last up to four or six weeks. Shaving, on the other hand, only removes hair from the surface, leaving the root intact and lasting three to seven days.
Unlike shaving, waxing is an effective and efficient way to remove large amounts of hair at one time. Rather than irritating skin with a blade, waxing is kinder to sensitive areas, eliminating the concern for cuts and razor burn.
How is Waxing Performed?
Waxing involves heating wax between 100 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The esthetician then applies the wax to the skin using a wooden spatula and waits for it to cool and harden. Once the wax has hardened, it’s quickly pulled off, revealing smooth skin. By applying a thick hot layer of wax to the skin, pores are able to open up more, ensuring the wax is more successful at removing all the hairs on the first application.
There are two different types of hot wax – soft and hard wax. Soft wax (or strip wax) requires a removable strip to be applied over the hot wax. Once the wax cools, the strip is swiftly removed. In contrast, hard wax does not require a strip at all, but instead firms up on its own.
Waxing FAQs
No. In fact, waxing has the opposite effect. Waxing removes the hair by the root, weakening and damaging it in the process. The hair then grows back finer and sparser with repeated regular waxings.
In order to see optimal results, hair needs to be around three to five mm in length. The shorter the hair, the more difficult it is for the wax to remove the follicle with the root attached.
Be cautious of the sun for at least 24 hours after a wax. The skin is more exposed and less protected after a session. Overexposure can cause the skin to peel or lift, irritating the already sensitive area.
